Helen Harnett
HTC Specialist in Intercultural Communication and Management

Helen Harnett has worked as an intercultural manager and trainer since 1989. She has first hand experience of the recruitment and management of large numbers of overseas staff.

Helen holds a Master's Degree from the University of Nancy in France and an Advanced Diploma in European Studies from the European University Centre in Nancy. She attended the Institute of Intercultural Communication in Oregon, USA. Helen lectures in Dublin City University on Intercultural Communication and Management on the International MBA and Master's in Intercultural Studies programmes. She is a Workplace Mediator, accredited by the Mediators' Institute of Ireland. Helen also acts as Intercultural Consultant for the Hospice-friendly Hospitals Project.

 

Marian Tannam
HTC Specialist in Diversity and Anti-Racism

Marian Tannam is a consultant and trainer in Equality and Diversity issues. She holds a B.A. in Communications‘, a Diploma in Information Studies and and a Masters in Equality Studies. Marian has delivered papers at a number of conferences. Her publications include Anti- Racism : an Irish Perspective (co-author), and Questioning Irish anti-racism in the recently published Racism and Anti-Racism in Ireland (edited by Ronit Lentin and Robbie McVeigh).

In her work on behalf of the Dominican Justice Office she co-ordinated the NGO Alliance Against Racism (NAAR) - (An alliance of 44 Irish Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)) in the production and presentation to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) of a Shadow Report in response to Ireland's First Report to CERD under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD). She was on the editing committee for the Shadow Report and subsequent Follow-up Report to CERD in June 2006.Marian was a founder member of Harmony (1986-1999)- an intercultural/anti racist family organisation. She has also served on a number of related committees and working groups including the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI) and Comhlámh.

Her experience of being in an intercultural family has given her insight into issues of culture and racism in Irish society. She brings familial, academic and professional training perspectives to her work in HTC.

Margaret Bouchier

Margaret Bouchier works as a trainer, facilitator and workplace mediator (Practitioner Status, Mediators Institute of Ireland). Margaret co-facilitates Intercultural and Anti-Racism Training on behalf of Harnett Tannam Consultancy.

Margaret has significant experience in working with staff in the Health Sector, specialising in conflicts within and between teams and interpersonal workplace disputes. As consultant to the Hospice Friendly Hospitals Programme, Margaret devised an Advocacy programme which will be delivered to staff in participating hospitals.

Margaret is a Council Member and Registrar of the Mediators Institute of Ireland, the professional association for Mediators in Ireland.

 

Mutale Kampuni

Mutale Kampuni is a facilitator and trainer. Mutale has co-facilitates Intercultural and Anti-Racism Training to on behalf of Harnett Tannam Consultancy. She also provides awareness training on domestic violence to service providers as part of her part-time position as a support worker with Women's Aid.

She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies (Development Studies Centre, Kimmage Manor 2005/6). At present she is studying for a Master's in Social Justice and Public Policy at All Hallows College.

Mutale worked for a number of years as Co-ordinator of Zambili d'Afrique (Zambia) - an umbrella organisation for entrepreneurship. In Ireland she was Entrepreneurship Development Facilitator for Ethnic Minority businesses in Ireland, Association of Refugees & Asylum Seekers in Ireland (ARASI) 2003-2005.

Mutale's experience as a migrant in the UK and Ireland has given her insight into the migrant experience and reactions in the receiving society. She has been involved in a number of intercultural initiatives which include being on the editing sub-Committee of the NGO Alliance Against Racism (NAAR) which produced a Shadow and Follow-up Reports in Response to Ireland's First Report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. She is Convener and Mentor with INSAKA-Ireland All Africa Youth Movement. Mutale is also a member of the Steering Committee for Consultation with An Garda Siochana Dublin North Central Division Forum for Ethnic Minorities.

 

Suzanne Smith

Suzanne Smith is an experienced intercultural trainer and consultant. Suzanne has worked in culturally diverse settings in Ireland and the United States, in the areas of counselling, healthcare, education, marketing and recruitment. Her experience managing a multi-cultural staff in a result-oriented service environment also gives her a perspective on some of the challenges facing staff and management in Ireland today. ). Suzanne co-facilitates Intercultural and Anti-Racism Training on behalf of Harnett Tannam Consultancy.

Suzanne has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Science from UCD and is currently working towards a Master's Degree in Intercultural Relations. In addition she has taken courses in cross-cultural healthcare delivery at the Intercultural Communication Institute in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Suzanne co-authored Anti-racism: An Irish Perspective published in 1998 and an article published in Issues in Education, in November 1999 entitled Ireland and the cultural kaleidoscope. In 2000 she published a guide for those working with refugees entitled Tools for Change for NCDE and co-authored Africans in Ireland: Developing Communities for the African Cultural Project. As a board member of The Irish Refugee Council, she was instrumental in its re-organisation process and provided consultation services in policy and procedure development for the IRC.

In addition to her academic and professional experience, Suzanne is part of an intercultural family and a very active participant in Educate Together She therefore brings a personal perspective and commitment to the issue of developing intercultural understanding.

Sabri Taha

Sabri Taha is a medical doctor who trained and worked in Sudan and now lives in Ireland. He has a particular expertise in intercultural aspects of healthcare and is a trained cultural mediator. Both in Sudan and Ireland he has had experience of working in intercultural health environments and teams. Sabri has co-facilitated training on behalf of HTC and advises us on Intercultural Healthcare issues.

Since his arrival in Ireland he has been involved in a number of intercultural organisations and was a member of Comhlámh's Health and Development Group which produced the booklet 'Understanding Female Genital Mutilation'. He has also worked as an interpreter.

Sabri has lived in Ireland for eight years and his experience of being a migrant and settling in Ireland brings a particular insight into diversity in Ireland.

Rosemary Warner - Researcher

Rosemary Warner is a researcher in the human rights area, specialising in anti-racism, interculturalism and refugee law. She has a Masters in International Human Rights Law from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, NUI Galway. She also holds a Masters in History and Political Science from Trinity College Dublin, and is a qualified librarian with over 20 years experience of working in a university library.

In 2004 Rosemary was the main researcher and drafter of a Shadow Report on behalf of 44 Irish Non-Governmental Organisations which was presented to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) at the time of the first examination of Ireland under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) in March 2005. She subsequently co-edited a Follow-Up Report to CERD in June 2006.

She has also done research on the recognition of educational and professional qualifications and access to further and higher education in Ireland of foreign nationals for such groups as Integrating Ireland, Pobal and the Network of Education Personnel. Other clients include Frontline the Irish based organisation for front-line defenders. She provides research services to HTC for specific research and training projects and on-going updating in the area of interculturalism, anti-racism and diversity.
